Learn to Troubleshoot and Maintain PLC Programs

WHAT IS IT?
5 days of intense and demanding training designed for industrial maintenance technicians.
1 student per workstation. This is a 100% hands on and “minds on” class.
8 students per class max. We are looking to turn a select group into the best troubleshooting technicians.
You will be programming PLCs within the first 15 minutes on Monday.
You must figure out how to wire discrete and analog inputs and outputs without a wiring diagram.
Be prepared to have a question answered with a question so you learn to think through the problems at the plant.
We love it when you make a mistake. Here, they are called “learning opportunities”. We use these learning opportunities to cover important topics that would be boring to lecture on.
By the end of the week, we have covered what most Level 1 and Level 2 PLC Programming Courses cover.
WHAT IS IT NOT?
NO lectures. We expect 2 way conversations between the teacher and the student.
NO PowerPoint slides.
NO history of the PLC. How does that help fix your machine?
NO rules. We hear many PLC programming “rules” that cause much of the confusion that prevents technicians from becoming skilled PLC troubleshooters.
NO catered lunches...this training is serious. Pack your lunch. By day 2, you will not want to leave.
NOT a 4.5 day class. It is a 5 day class. Plan on arriving early Monday morning and leaving Friday evening.
NOT a PLC programming class. We teach you to troubleshoot PLC programs. These skills can make a PLC programmer a better programmer, but that isn’t who this class is geared towards.
We simulate real world examples.
We put you in problem scenarios that you will run into at the plant.
When a machine is down, time is not on your side.
Even if you have a good relationship with your local automation company, what happens when they are unavailable? You could lose costly amounts of money in lost productivity and defective products.
Quit swapping out parts looking for the problem.
The problem is rarely in the PLC program. The problem will almost always be in the field. Understanding the PLC program will cut down on swapping out good parts unnecessarily..
Increased problem-solving skills and self-confidence.
When a technician has increased troubleshooting skills, they will dive into machines without hesitation instead of waiting for the “experts” to arrive.
Increased employee retention.
When an employee feels the job they do is important to the success of the company and that the company is investing time and money in them, they will do the best job possible and will go the extra mile for the employer.
Is this course for beginners or experienced technicians?
Both. Since there is only one student per station, students can be at different levels in the same classroom.
I’m an engineer. Can I sign up for your course?
Maybe, our course is designed to help maintain PLC controlled systems, not develop them. It can help you become a better programmer, but you have to be willing to admit mistakes and learn from them.
We have SLC 500s and Micrologix PLCs in our plant. Will this course help us or do we need a custom course?
These skills can easily be carried over to other Allen Bradley PLCs. The troubleshooting skills are the same for other brands as well, once you navigate the software.
Can you customize a class for me?
Yes, but you must complete our standard classes first.
Can I take home my trainer?
Yes and no. We use the same PLC Trainers that are offered for sale but depending on our course schedule and PLC Trainer backlogs, we may not be able to let you carry your trainer out. We ask that you purchase it separately and we can have it boxed up and ready for you to leave with Friday or ship it to you.
