RsLogix 500- Warnings and precautions before you get started

elecricalhazard.pngWhile we have taken time and steps to make your trainer as safe as possible, it is still a simulation of an industrial environment which DOES include hazards.  Please take the time to review the following warnings.

On your trainer, these are several specific hazards you should take into account:

Electrical Hazard! Voltages greater than 50 V applied across dry, unbroken, human skin can cause heart fibrillation. If the same skin becomes wet, if there are wounds, or if the voltage is applied to electrodes that penetrate the skin, then even voltage sources below 40 V can be lethal.

Arc Flash Hazard! An arc flash is the light and heat produced from an electric arc supplied with sufficient electrical energy to cause substantial damage, harm, fire, or injury.  Arc flash temperatures can reach or exceed 35,000 °F (19,400 °C)

Learn Electrical Codes!  Equipment damage or serious injury to personnel can result from the failure to follow all applicable codes and standards.  You should follow all applicable sections of the National Fire Code, National Electrical Code, and the codes of the National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA). There may be local regulatory or government offices that can also help determine which codes and standards are necessary for safe installation and operation.

Lockout Tagout!  Instructors, do not under estimate the importance of teaching lockout tagout.  Get students used to following lockout tagout procedures now.  They make lockout tagout clam shells that can be used with the 120VAC electrical plugs on these trainers.

1.  Hazardous Voltage!  The trainer is powered by 120VAC connected to the terminal blocks to the top left of the drive.  This power continues on to the top of the drive and to the power supply. DO NOT touch this area before first removing all power from the trainer and waiting five minutes for the DC bus capacitors to discharge.  The power supply is powered by 120VAC. Keep hands and other objects away from this area. DO NOT attempt to remove or tamper with this plug.

2.  Hazardous Voltage!  The drive output is 240VAC 3 phase connected at the bottom of the drive.  Keep hands and other objects away from this area. DO NOT open the bottom access cover before first removing all power from the trainer and waiting five minutes for the DC bus capacitors to discharge. The motor/fan is 240VAC 3 phase connected at the bottom of the fan/motor.  DO NOT open the bottom access cover before first removing all power from the trainer and waiting five minutes for the DC bus capacitors to discharge.
